Comparison

CabSnap
vs Expensify

Expensify is built around submitting expenses to a company. CabSnap is for people who don't have one. Same receipts, different destination.

First, the honest part

Expensify is
a serious product.

It is a full expense management platform. SmartScan reads receipts, it tracks mileage, it syncs with accounting software, it runs the whole submit-review-approve-reimburse loop, and it has an iPhone app. We have none of that.

If you are an employee expensing to your employer, or you run a business with people submitting expenses to you, use Expensify. That is the job it was designed for and it does it well.

What follows is for everyone else.

The real difference

There is nobody
to submit to.

An expense report exists so somebody else can approve it and pay you back. Every part of that product — the report, the approver, the reimbursement, the policy rules — assumes a company on the other end.

An owner-operator has no other end. The money left your account and it is not coming back from anyone. The receipt is not a claim against an employer; it is just a record, and the only question is whether it still exists in April.

So CabSnap does not build a report. It captures the paper, reads it, keeps it, and gets out of the way.

Questions

Straight answers.

Is Expensify free?

Expensify shows a free plan for individual use, with paid company plans described as starting at $5 per member. CabSnap is free to download from Google Play and has in-app purchases. Check both listings for current pricing rather than trusting a number typed on a marketing page.

What does Expensify do that CabSnap does not?

Expense reports with an approval flow, mileage tracking, accounting integrations, corporate cards, and an iPhone app. If any of those are requirements, Expensify is the better fit and we would rather you knew that now.

Why would an owner-operator pick CabSnap?

Because there is nobody to submit a report to. When no employer is reimbursing you, the approval workflow is not a feature — it is steps between you and a saved receipt. CabSnap does the capture and stops there.

Can I use both?

Yes, and it is a sensible setup if you drive under your own authority but also do contract work that requires submitting expenses to a client. They are aimed at different halves of the problem.
